This recipe serves 2-4 people

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of kale, washed and thoroughly dried

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon nutritional yeast (optional for a cheesy flavour)

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Kale

    • Remove the kale leaves from the thick stems and tear them into bite-sized pieces.

    • Make sure the kale is dry to ensure crispiness.

  2. Season the Kale

    • Place the kale pieces in a large bowl.

    • Drizzle the olive oil over the kale and massage it into the leaves to ensure they are evenly coated.

    • Sprinkle the kale with nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

    • Toss the kale until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

  3. Air Fry the Kale

    • Preheat your air fryer to 150°C (300°F).

    • Place the seasoned kale in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. DO NOT OVERFILL YOUR AIRFRYER. The kale will burn if you have stacked the kale too high.

    • Air fry the kale for 4-5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.

  4. Check for Crispiness

    • After 4-5 minutes, check the kale chips. They should be crispy but not burnt. If they need more time, air fry for another 1-2 minutes, checking frequently.

  5. Serve

    • Once crispy, remove the kale chips from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.

Enjoy your healthy and crunchy vegan air fryer kale chips as a snack or side.
